1985 Prototype Richard Schultz for Steelcase Sheet Metal Dining Chair
Listed for sale is a Richard Schultz sheet metal dining chair prototype for Steelcase, dating to circa 1985. This is a marvelous and rare example. The frame is in very good shape with some light wear. The chair is constructed from cut and bent aluminum sheet, then upholstered with a green fabric seat. As quoted from Peter Schultz "Prototype sheet metal dining chair designed by Richard Schultz for Steelcase circa 1985. Never produced." This piece has been inspected and gently cleaned.
This example was acquired directly from Peter Schultz, the son of Richard Schultz and co-owner of Richard Schultz Design. He remained a hugely influential part of the company for decades until production rights were sold back to Knoll in 2012. Peter Schultz annotated a list of details for each piece listed. We are thus able to verify both the authenticity and accuracy of each piece's background. Please note, multiple prototypes are available from different Schultz designs. Please see our eBay store for other listings.
The chair measures approximately 30 inches tall by 18 inches wide and 20 inches deep.
