SOLD George Nakashima for Widdicomb Pair Of Origins Armchairs
Listed for sale is an authentic pair of black walnut upholstered armchairs by George Nakashima. The chairs were crafted by Widdicomb furniture in Grand Rapids, MI. They are rare and exceptional examples of George Nakashima's earliest work. Soon after Nakashima came to Pennsylvania, he began building his studio. At this time, he also produced designs for Widdicomb and and created the Sundra series along with others, which used both solid hardwoods and exotic burl veneers in an effort to produce stunning quality pieces.
The set was just reupholstered in a beautiful Knoll hopsack fabric and was done properly to spec.
This set was purchased in the early 1950's and was used by the same family until now. It accompanied an entire dining room set, which you can inquire about if desired.
These chairs show no signs of damage and show signs of age. The patina is rich and lovely.
Much like the conoid chairs, these are made from black walnut and have lovely elongated arms.
The chairs are marked beneath the upholstery if I recall correctly.
