1964 Egg Lounge Chair and Ottoman, Model 3316 by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in Fabric
This is an ‘Egg’ lounge chair and coordinating ottoman, Model 3316, initially designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1958. This set dates to March of 1964 (label shows 0364, indicating production date). Jacobsen perfected this “egg” shape by experimenting with wire and plaster in his garage, resulting in the enveloping lounge chair. This special set retains its original brown fabric upholstery. The chair swivels and has a tilt function, and rests on a 4-star aluminum base.
The chair measures 31.1 inches deep, 33.9 inches wide, and is 41 inches high. It has a seat height of 14.6 inches and an arm height of 22.8 inches. The ottoman measures 15.7 inches deep, 22 inches wide and is 14.6 inches high. The original brown fabric is worn and is threadbare in several areas on the ottoman, and the seat cushion is crunchy and has hardened. The original label is present on the base. The base has been cleaned, but does show some signs of age. Overall, this lounge set is in good original condition. Please see photos.
