1964 Egg Lounge Chair, Model 3316 by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in Black Leather
This is an ‘Egg’ lounge chair, Model 3316, initially designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1958. This particular piece dates to circa 1964. Jacobsen perfected this “egg” shape by experimenting with wire and plaster in his garage, resulting in the enveloping lounge chair. The chair swivels and has a tilt function, and rests on a 4-star aluminum base. It was likely reupholstered in the last 20 years or so in its present black leather.
The chair measures 31.1 inches deep, 33.9 inches wide, and is 41 inches high. It has a seat height of 14.6 inches and an arm height of 22.8 inches. The original label is present on the base. The base has been cleaned but does show some signs of age.
There is some patina on the leather, and the seat cushion appears more worn than the rest of the chair. Overall, this chair is in very good condition. Please see photos.
