1970s Eames DCMU Dining / Side Chair by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller in Black Fabric
This is an Eames DCMU Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. This model was designed in 1970. The acronym DCMU stands for Dining Height (D) Chair (C) on Metal (M) Rod Base Upholstered (U). The listed price includes one chair and we have several available for purchase. The chairs are constructed of fiberglass & plastic, and they feature a tubular steel base. The upholstery is done in black Alexander Girard Hopsack fabric. Interestingly, the bases used for this chair model are the same as the original plywood DCM.
The DCMU is 21.5 inches long, 19.5 inches wide, and 29.5 inches high. It has a seat height of 19 inches. These chairs are in very good vintage condition, and they retain their original fabric which shows some light wear from use. Their original white glides are present. The tubular steel legs are in good condition with slight scratches and nicks. Overall, these chairs are in good vintage condition with light wear present. Please see photos. The rubber edge banding tends to be problematic on these, so if there are any existing issues, we will do our best to address them prior to shipping. These chairs were originally purchased by Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and some retain the college label underneath.
