This handsome lounge chair is composed of a molded reinforced plastic shell, with an upholstered black leather seat on a triangular chromed-steel frame. Condition overall is very good to excellent with some wear from use. Each chair is dated 2007. See photos.
This chair was designed by Nelson in 1955, born of the Herman Miller design studio while he was the resident director of design. This particular chair was produced by Vitra. Vitra is the sole authorized manufacturer of Nelson products for markets in Europe and the Middle East.
This is a single chair (multiple chairs are available, though the price listed is for each chair). Each chair measures 40.25 inches wide by 32.5 inches deep, and 32.75 inches tall. The seat height is 11.5 inches.
George Nelson is regarded as one of the most important figures in American design. His decision to call this model “the Coconut chair” was allegedly a result of his idea that the shape resembled a slice of coconut.
