1950s Children's L-Leg Table or Coffee Table, Model 81B by Aino and Alvar Aalto for Artek in Birch with Linoleum Top
This is a child’s table (or can be used as a coffee table), model 81B, designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto for Artek in 1933. It was manufactured in Finland circa 1950s. The piece is constructed of steam-bent Birch wood, and its table top is black linoleum. This play table was initially designed for children, and has been utilized in kindergarten classes for generations in Finland. The size of this piece also renders it appropriate for use as a taller coffee table as well. This design is part of the L-leg collection of Alvar Aalto.
The table measures 29.5 inches deep, 47 inches wide, and 22 inches tall. This table remains original in every way, and the birch has taken on a warm glow from time and use. The black linoleum top also shows signs of use. Please see photos.
