2020s UHURU Design Hono Stool in Reclaimed Pine with Shou Sugi Ban Finish, USA
This is a Hono Stool, initially designed by Bill Hilgendorf for UHURU Design in 2004. This example was produced in the United States in the 2020s. The table is made from a slice of solid pine that was derived from a retired utility pole, and the black charred finish was achieved using the Shou Sugi Ban method. Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese burning technique that preserves wood through charring. The table was finished with a non-toxic protective clear coat, and the bottom of the base features plastic glides to protect surfaces and allow for ease in moving. No two Hono stools are the same, and they are hand-made in small batches at the UHURU studio.
This piece measures roughly 18 inches deep, 16 inches wide, and 16 inches high. There are some scratches and scuffs on the surface of the piece. Overall, this piece is in good condition. Please see photos.
