1977 Set of Four Opalen Armchairs Borge Lindau Lammhults Sweden Stendig Imported
This is a set of four Opalen Armchairs, designed by Borge Lindau for Lammhults in Sweden in 1973. The listed price includes the set of four chairs as shown. The design was initially created as part of an interiors project for the Hotel Opalen in Gothenburg, Sweden. The chairs have frames of laminated beech, and they retain their original light purple upholstery fabric. This particular set was produced in 1977 and was imported to the United States by Stendig.
The set came from the IBM Headquarters in Armonk, NY, which was designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) Architects, under project lead Gordon Bunshaft. Davis Allen was likely leading the interiors for the project.
Each chair measures 24 inches deep, 21.25 inches wide, and 29 inches high. They have a seat height of 17.75 inches. The fabric has some slight fading and some light spots, and the frames have some scuffs, especially on the legs. Overall, this set is in good condition. Please see photos.
