1954 Herman Miller Eames Wire Shell Chair X Base DKX-1 All Original Redwood Avenue Label
Listed for sale is a super rare and original Eames for Herman Miller 1954 DKX chair with wire top, upholstered pad, and early X base.
This piece can be dated due to the use of this base typology, as the X base was only used during the earlier production. The X base was replaced with a more commonly used H base in 1955.
The example for sale has a lovely patina with some wear and signs of use. It is a completely original example, which is untouched.
This chair's original upholstered pad is generally in very nice condition, though does have a crack in the naugahyde, as shown in the photos. I would keep this as/is, considering that the pad is so original and because there is no break in the material itself.
There is a break in the wire within the framework, which doesn't seem to affect the chair structurally. See photos.
