SOLD 1953 DAT Rare Herman Miller Eames Fiberglass Arm Shell Chair vintage
Listed for sale is an all extremely rare and early Eames DAT fiberglass arm shell, made in 1953 (many believe it was made for one year or less). The design is noteworthy in how briefly it was manufactured and is also noted for subtle, yet beautiful detailing. The base is made from welded steel with an industrial style tension mechanism to tilt the seat backward and forward. In order to give users the ability to rest their feet on the base, cast aluminum edge details sit on top of the steel edges and are beautifully polished.
This particular example is absolutely untouched and has never been disassembled or altered. It is museum quality and is a fantastically as well as unique Eames piece.
It came from the home of wealthy woman in Connecticut, who acquired a few specific pieces like this through an architect and good friend.
