SOLD 1951 Set of 8 Alvar Aalto No. 611 Stacking Dining Chairs by Artek of Finland
Listed for sale is a set of 8 Alvar Aalto No. 611 stacking dining chairs by Artek. These early examples date to 1951 and are gorgeous original examples, which came from a notable Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania estate. The chairs were from an architecturally noteworthy neighborhood and home. They were purchased for completion of the James Speyer home that they would live in for the coming decades. The Apt family commissioned the home and lived with these pieces for many years. Among the other notable homes in this area are the Giovannitti house by Richard Meier and Frank house, designed by Marcel Breuer and Walter Gropius.
Nonetheless, these 611 chairs are in delightful original condition, showing some wear and patina from use. See photos. Overall, they are remarkably preserved examples and terrifically rare.
