1950s MAX Armchair by Ray and Charles Eames for Herman Miller in Fiberglass
This is an early 1950s (circa 1953) Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller fiberglass MAX arm chair. The piece does not retain its label, but we can accurately date the chair to between approximately 1954 based on the base and corresponding feet. It has its original black X base with the large shock mounts intact.
The chair measures 24 inches deep, 24.75 inches wide, and 30 inches tall. Its seat height is 17 inches. The base’s black finish has some patina, and we have intentionally left it in as-found condition. The fiberglass seat has some exposed fibers, and has developed a very attractive patina. Overall, this all-original chair is in very good condition with some wear. Please see photos.
