1940s Replogle Globe Mounted on Classic Wooden Demilune Stand with Curved Base
This is a Replogle Globe on a Wooden Stand in the shape of a Demilune, produced in the 1950s. The globe is replete with notable discoveries of historically relevant conquistadors, and the metal axis upon which the globe is set allows the user to determine the vertices of locations. It has a demilune-shaped bottom shelf that adds stability to the base. The wood veneer has a mottled, tortoise-like finish.
Replogle was started by Luther Replogle in 1930, when he began handcrafting globes in his apartment in Chicago. Replogle utilized maps from England, with the vision of making globes a common feature in people's households.
This globe measures 21.5 inches long, 22.75 inches wide, and 42.25 inches high. The base has some small areas of veneer damage along the edges, and the globe has some slight damage apparent around Antarctica. Overall, this piece is in good condition. Please see photos.
