1980s Tabla Lamp by Mario Barbaglia and Marco Columbo for Italiana Luce Aluminum, Poly-carbonate
This is a Tabla table lamp, designed by Mario Barbaglia and Marco Colombo for Italiana Luce in 1988. This piece has an extendable adjustable arm, made of lightweight polycarbonate plastic, that gracefully pivots on the peak of a conical base. The base is constructed of aluminum. The transformer of this halogen lamp is housed in the base of the lamp, keeping the sculptural lines unfettered by cords or switches.
The lamp measures 38 inches in length, 4.5 inches in width and 27 inches in length.
In 1998, Italiana Luce was purchased by Nemo, which included Barbaglia and Colombo’s lighting oeuvre. Nemo later would become the lighting division of Cassina S.p.A.. While one may see licensed reproductions of this design under either of the aforementioned companies, the original tagged Italiana Luce pieces remain the most coveted.
