1958 Pair of Herman Miller Eames Fiberglass Dining Shell Chair in Red / Orange
This is a pair of Eames DSX Side Chairs, originally designed by Ray and Charles Eames in the 1950s. These particular examples were produced by Herman Miller in the USA in 1958. The chairs are comprised of fiberglass shells in orange atop a steel chrome H-base. DSX is an acronym for Dining Height Side Chair on X-Base. The acronym stayed the same after they switched production to H-bases from X-bases.
The listed price includes both chairs to be sold together as a set.
Each DSX chair measures 22 inches deep, 18.5 inches wide, and 31.25 inches high with a seat height of 18 inches. These chairs show wear consistent with expected use, but overall are in very good to excellent condition. Please see photos.
If desired, we can swap the feet out with original plastic glides for $50 or can show the next buyer where to source them. Production circa 1958.
