1940s 4140 3-Drawer Chest / Dresser Cabinet by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller in Ebonized Wood with Leatherette Front
This is a 3-drawer dresser with a black and white checkerboard facade, designed by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller's 4140 collection in 1941. The chest features three padded drawers which retain their original white and black ‘Fabrikoid’ leather/cloth, and the mahogany case has been ebonized and refinished. The drawers have dovetail joinery, and the piece is solidly made.
This chest measures 44.5 inches long, 18.5 inches wide, and 34.75 inches high. The leatherette drawer faces have no tears, but do show some light discoloration and visible scuffs. The wood case looks terrific, having been freshly redone. Overall, this piece is in very good condition with some wear apparent. Please see photos.
