1960s Marcel Breuer for Knoll / Gavina Wassily Lounge Chair, Model B3 in Black
This is a Wassily Lounge Chair, Model B3, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925. This particular example dates back to the 1960s. The chair has black leather upholstery and a chromed-steel frame that is tubular in nature, emblematic of Breuer’s best-known works. The chair is unmarked/unlabelled, though it does have high quality belting leather straps with nice patina and welded end caps. The quality and detailing is consistent with productions from Gavina, which were distributed in the United States by Knoll.
The chair measures 27 inches deep, 31 inches wide, and 28.75 inches high with a seat height of 16.5 inches. The leather does show wear consistent with age and use, as well as the frame with scuffs and scratches apparent. Overall, the chair is in good vintage condition with signs of wear. Please see photos.
