1952 Set of Four Herman Miller Eames Rope Edge SAX Dining / Side Armshell Chairs
Listed for sale is a super rare and original set of four lemon yellow Herman Miller Eames fiberglass dining / side chairs, designed by Ray and Charles Eames. These chairs are the SAX standard chairs, which sit slightly lower than the DAX (slightly higher dining chair) and sit higher than the LAX (lounge chair). The SAX was noted by Herman Miller as being ideal for a reception or living room space, for reading, or for an office. Uniquely, these are early chairs with coveted roped edges. This places them in the first production of the fiberglass arm shells. Aside from the rope edge, they also retain the early screw-on feet, thick and heavy X base, oversize shock mounts, and early Zenith label. While finding a single nice example of these chairs is difficult, finding a matching set of four is exceptionally uncommon. The chairs came from a Philadelphia area estate and were produced circa 1952. The chairs are in nice original condition. The uppers do show some wear as noted in the photos and legs have a nice patina to them as well. See photos.
The chairs measure 29.5 inches tall by 25 inches wide and 24.5 inches deep.
