SOLD 1940's Early Vintage Knoll Associates George Nakashima Straight Chair Cherry
Listed for sale is an original George Nakashima straight chair, produced by George Nakashima and sold through Knoll Associates circa 1948. The early Nakashima straight chairs were often labelled 451 underneath and this example carries that same numbering as well. It also carries what appears to be the remnants of the original Knoll label.
This example was made in cherry (likely Pennsylvania cherry wood) and shows beautifully with nice patina.
The chair shows some wear from use as can be seen in photos. Some light scratches and other wear expected for a chair dating to the 1940's. The finish is in nice condition overall.
These early pieces for Knoll represent some of Nakashima's earliest work and are quite special due to these pieces pre-dating most of his studio designs. The Knoll relationship also pre-dates pieces he did for Widdicomb.
