1942 Leg Splint by Ray and Charles Eames for Evans Products Company in Birch
This is a sculptural wood leg splint, designed for the U.S. Navy in the early 1940s by Charles and Ray Eames. The piece was created of birch and molded plywood, and the wood has taken on a wonderful warm patina over the years. Many staunch Eames aficionados consider these splints to be the nonpareil in their collections. It was the precursor to their bent plywood furniture and informed their innovations.
The splint measures 8 inches wide, 4 inches deep and 47.75 inches in height. The piece is in very good condition, but remains a vintage piece that will exhibit signs of time and use. Please see all photos.
